I am writing this review for the carrier CL Express. I have already shared my experience with the broker, AmeriFreight, and was encouraged by the broker to write this review for the transport carrier. AmeriFreight has assured that they will address my complaint by not contracting with CL Express for at least 6 months.
My first issue is that it was a bit difficult to understand the person who called me and my mother to schedule the pick up and drop off. At first I wondered if it’s because my mother and I are bilingual but my boyfriend, who grew up in the US had occasion to speak to the same person and agreed that the accent was definitely a communication barrier. The person first called me to schedule the pick up date and confirm my address. He asked if an 18 wheeler would fit on our street and I said no, but there were several parking lots nearby where we could meet him, even an empty lot near a row of car dealerships. I was trying to tell him the name of the intersection but he cut me off and said he would call the next day to figure it out. The next day, he called my boyfriend an hour before picking up the car but did not say anything about where to meet him. He later called to ask my boyfriend to meet him on a busy street at the entrance to our subdivision. This person on the phone turned out to be the driver of the transport carrier. When my boyfriend drives up, the carrier is parked in the turn lane, blocking all cars from getting in and out of the subdivision. Cars were swerving all around him to leave/enter the subdivision. He signaled my boyfriend to drive up to the carrier, which my boyfriend did because he was embarrassed to be associated with this major inconvenience and safety hazard. My boyfriend drove to the back of the carrier and tried to get out of the car but the guy told him to drive the car up to carrier bed!!! My boyfriend did so just to get this ordeal over with quickly. Unfortunately, once he was up there, he could not get out of the car. The driver told him to crawl into the backseat to get out of the car and then climb down the carrier. I was flabbergasted by this. It was completely unprofessional and dangerous, not to mention a breach of contract since the pick up process includes the driver loading it onto the carrier. Thank god they did not ask my 60 year mother to drive the car down from the carrier.
I truly hope AmeriFrieght and CL Express will address this problem and make sure their drivers are better trained.
