Greg gave me an estimate quickly, but when I accepted it, I had 3 days (he knew this) to get the pickup done. After 2.5 days of no follow up, I had to cancel and scramble to get another company, which meant that I would be picking the car up late and incurring storage fees (again, Greg knew I was against a deadline).
The estimate he gave me was 515.00, which was considerably lower than several others I had received. When I engaged another company, I was informed that they could see the driver offer Greg had put out and it was 575.00 (NOTE: for brokers, the procedure appears to be that they go out to several web sites and make an offer to pay a certain amount for a given transport; then a driver will, hopefully, accept the offer and the broker can complete the transport). To the 575.00 which would be paid to the trucker, an amount for the broker would be added for Emory’s services as broker (which is fine, I have no issue with somebody getting paid for their time/efforts). What I have a gripe with is the 515.00 estimate from somebody who has experience in the car transport market – it is to me, clearly a low-ball to get my business, if he had engaged a driver at 575.00 and added at least 50.00 for himself, the actual cost would have been 625.00, more than 100 dollars (just over 20%) higher than his “estimate”. At the very least, when he went to bid to get a trucker at 575.00, I would expect him to let me know that the estimate was not even close to what the actual cost would be. I do not suggest others reward this behavior.
