HOW TO LOAD AND UNLOAD A CAR ON A CAR CARRIER
People are constantly moving from state to state and most of the times, they do not want to drive their car to their new home. They would prefer to take advantage of a car carrier doing the heavy “lifting” by transporting the car for them.
The question is, when the car carrier gets to them to pick up the car, how is it loaded?
The way the auto transport industry works, the driver arrives with what is called a Bill of Lading/ Condition report which will record the condition of the car on pick up. The car undergoes an inspection similar to when you do a walk around when you rent a car.
Once that inspection is completed, the loading process begins.
This is usually a two- person job.
The driver of car carrier lowers the ramps. Then either he or his assistant will line the vehicle up with the trailer.
Then the car is slowly driven up the ramps and on to the trailer. There is one person who is out there acting as a guide to the driver. It can be even more “heart pounding” when the driver is going up the top deck of a car carrier.
The driver relies on the guide person to whether the driver needs to move to the left or to the right if necessary. The put the vehicle in park and set the emergency brake.
Once the vehicle is in position, the car is then strapped down to hold it in place. Straps go over the tires and a chain is placed on the vehicle frame.
An experienced transporter can have your car loaded quickly on his trailer.
When your vehicle arrives at its destination, everything that you witnessed at the beginning is done in reverse.
Straps and chains removed, car backed off the carrier with the assistant as a guide and the inspection done.
Once this is completed, the transporter is paid for his services
