We’ve all heard the tried and true saying, but the purpose of this article isn’t to convince you that truly buying good quality furniture that will last you for years is a better investment than cheaper furniture you have to repurchase over and over again. Although, it is something I agree and believe in. However, this statement, and this idea could not be a more important concept when it comes to shipping your vehicle, whether it’s a motorcycle, boat, car, rv, or atv.

It may not seem like a long term investment, or relatable to the idea, but in the short amount of time between choosing a broker, and receiving your car, the amount of time, energy, and headaches you will save will by paying that higher price will become apparent the single time you choose not to.

Scams, horror stories, we’ve all heard them, we’ve googled them, and we’ve bitten our nails wondering just what can happen to our cars, who do you trust? Research is key.

Find a reputable company, and do not let the scammers convince you that it costs $500 to ship your vehicle across the U.S. from New York to Los Angeles. These 8-10 car carriers get about 4 mpg. Both your broker and carrier have to cover plenty of overhead: licenses, insurance, bonds, bills, gas, dispatch personnel, customer service teams, and more. A lot goes on behind the scenes, and I can tell you from personal experience that your broker (if he’s from a reputable company) puts in a lot of work and time on your order in the same way a top realtor would put in that extra effort to sell your house at top market rate and quickly.

Once you start pinching pennies with your transport many bad things begin to occur. Whether your vehicle doesn’t get picked up at all, to rates changing and increasing dramatically, to low quality carriers with bad reputations and beat up equipment showing up at your door.

A vehicle is one of the biggest investments you make throughout your lifetime, save yourself headaches, and take care of that investment by trusting your reputable broker, and not asking him or her to drop their quality to match that of an 1 star company, they don’t deserve it, and you definitely don’t deserve the life lesson, that’s why I wrote this article.

  1. Great article. So true that you get what you pay for and it’s worth paying a few extra bucks for some peace of mind.
